UK consumers 'still want to purchase homes'
Most consumers in the UK still believe in home ownership, it has
been revealed.
A survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of the New Homes Marketing
Board (NHMB) found that 89 per cent of those polled wanted to
invest in real estate.
This was an increase on the 88 per cent recorded by the
organisation last year.
David Pretty, chairman of the NHMB, said: "Our national belief in
the benefits of home ownership seems almost unshakeable, which is
quite remarkable given the current economic situation."
However, he went on to acknowledge that problems with obtaining
mortgages are hindering the attempts of some consumers to buy
residences.
Recently, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors revealed
that Britain was one of only five countries in Europe to see
property prices rise last year.
Over the course of the 12-month period, the value of dwellings in
the UK increased by one per cent despite the recession.
