NAEA calls for wide-ranging review of Hips

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) has welcomed the
decision to hold a consultation on whether a questionnaire should
be included in Home Information Packs (Hips).
It noted that one of the biggest problems faced by its members when
it comes to Hips is supplying information on local searches and
leasehold, which this could help with.
However, the organisation also sounded a note of caution, saying
the change will only have value if it is part of a review of the
entire Hips system.
"The NAEA has consistently stated that they do not help the buying
and selling process, do not stop sales falling through and do very
little, if anything, to speed up the transaction. It is this lack
of certainty that needs addressing and Hips will never help
this."
Hips were introduced last year as a way of collating all the
relevant facts for purchasers during the buying and selling
process, as well as to offer information about improving the energy
efficiency of homes.
