Buy-to-let 'to stay strong in 2009' says Arla

Buy-to-let 'to stay strong in 2009' says Arla

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) has predicted that the next year will see buy-to-let investment levels improve.

Commenting on the expected impact of a continued fall in house prices, Arla's operations manager Ian Potter said: "With house prices continuing to fall, we're expecting to see a good deal of investor landlords enticed back into buying up properties."

This will happen because people will realise that property is "still the most solid long-term investment," he added.

Arla has suggested that the early part of the year will be a little less steady, reflecting the recent geographical variation in the rental returns available for landlords.

Earlier this month an Arla spokesman advised investors that they should study the circumstances of each local area, as national trends and averages are no longer relevant amid a large amount of variation in how favourable each area is for rental property.
